Events
As noted in our by-laws, the Potomac Boxer Club sponsors several events, sanctioned by the American Kennel Club each year:
  • Specialty Show:  April
  • Specialty Show:  October
  • Puppy Match: Fall
 
Educational
To help new owners or those new to the show arena, the Potomac Boxer Club provides special presentations and speakers, from breeders and handlers to veterinarians and other experts, for companion owners and those owners intending to show or breed their Boxer. Recent topics have included grooming for the show ring; grooming for everyday health; genetic diseases of the Boxer and their diagnosis and treatment; use of Boxers as therapy dogs; physiology and health of Boxers, CPR and First Aid; agility and obedience training; general health topics; and ear taping/puppy training. These activities are planned as informal exchanges of information with professionals and owners.
Boxer Rescue
As is the sad case with many purebreds, unwanted or previously abused or abandoned Boxers need to be placed in safe, permanent homes with loving, caring families. Potomac Boxer Club maintains a Boxer Rescue program to help families and Boxers find one another. During the years 1990-2000 Potomac Boxer Club Rescue has placed more than 60 boxers providing needy dogs a good home. Families looking for a Boxer to adopt should call Rescue Coordinator Karen Newman at 703-821-8641. Families are asked for a donation to support future rescue operations as well as to defray any necessary medical costs.
Fundraising
To support the Club functions and rescue operations, various raffles, silent auctions, sales, and other events are offered both at sanctioned events and through Club activities and meetings. Donations are tax deductible.
Meetings
Meetings are held monthly, from September through June, on the first Tuesday of every month, unless that Tuesday follows a federal holiday, at approximately 8 PM. Meeting notices are sent to members to indicate meeting locations, as locations vary, and agenda items. Some meetings are held in member's homes, as space and time permits, others in public areas. Guests are welcome to attend.
